Get paid to record your everyday work.
We work with technicians, tradespeople, and other hands‑on professionals to collect short, secure video recordings that help researchers build better prosthetic hands and safer robots.
- Typical compensation for recorders: $20/hour, varies by recorded task
- Regional Operators: Hiring Regional Operators to manage the day-to-day operations of our recording projects. If interested please fill out the form below.
- We provide the small, hat‑mounted camera and instructions
- Same‑day or next‑day pay in most cases
- Referral bonuses available
No obligation. We’ll review your information and contact you if there is a good fit.
What this project is
Record Your Day is a data collection effort supporting prosthetics and robotics research. Our team works with people who do real, practical work every day—such as maintenance, inspection, warehouse tasks, retail, assembly, and lab or technician work—to record short videos of typical tasks.
These recordings help engineers and researchers understand how people actually use their hands and tools. The goal is to improve the next generation of prosthetic devices and robotic systems.
How it works
- Fill out the interest form. It takes about 5 minutes to tell us about your job and typical tasks.
- We contact you. If your work is a good fit, we’ll reach out to explain the project, answer questions, and confirm details.
- We provide equipment. We send or bring a small, lightweight camera that attaches to a hat or headband.
- You record your normal work. You perform your usual tasks as you normally would while the camera records.
- You get paid. Once the recordings are complete and received, we pay you and any agreed‑upon referral bonuses.
Who we’re looking for
We are especially interested in people who do specialized, hands‑on work—jobs that involve detailed hand and tool use, or tasks that most people do not usually do.
Examples of roles that may be a good fit include:
- Technicians (bio lab, manufacturing, hardware, repair)
- Maintenance, facilities, and field service roles
- Inspection work, especially using measurement tools
- Warehouse, inventory, and logistics tasks
- Assembly or light manufacturing
- Retail or customer‑facing roles involving product handling
- Event setup, organization, and similar work
If you’re unsure whether your work qualifies, you can still fill out the form. Just describe the most interesting tasks you could record—we’ll review and let you know.
Compensation & time commitment
Exact compensation depends on the project, location, and type of work, but typical arrangements include:
- $30/hour for shorter recording sessions
- $200–$300 per day for full‑day recordings
- Potential longer‑term contracts in the range of $3,000–$5,000 per month if the initial collaboration goes well
- Referral bonuses if you introduce other qualified participants
We aim to make payment simple and fast, with same‑day or next‑day payment whenever possible, once we receive the agreed‑upon recordings.
Questions you might have
Is this safe and legitimate?
Yes. This is a research‑driven data collection project focused on improving prosthetic and robotic systems. We use standard agreements, explain the project clearly before you begin, and you are free to decline or stop at any time before or during recording.
What happens to the video?
The recordings are used for research and model training related to robotics and prosthetics. They are not used for marketing or public posting. We focus on hand and tool movements, not on personal details.
Do I need special technical skills?
No. We provide the camera and simple instructions. If you are comfortable wearing a small, lightweight device and going about your normal work, that is usually enough.
Can I refer a colleague?
Yes. We encourage referrals and often provide a bonus when someone you refer completes a recording session. You can mention referrals directly in the form.
Where can I learn more?
You can read more background information about related research on our information page: prosthetics & grasp research overview.
